I take it you're talking about Gazers. Yeah, their ability to paralyze you can be annoying.
I take it you can't talk to Julia about the key. You first need to talk to Captain Hawk; he'll inform you of the tunnels beneath Moonshade and that Julia has a key to them.

When you paralized change the order for Alt-tab keybord button, to your any internet page... after back to game again Avatar can move little, repeat!
