Problems with the Ether gem

I have forged a black sword, found the ether gem, and no want to free the demon using the gem. However, if I double click the ether gem, it disappears and the demon stays in the mirror. I'm not sure what is going on with this.

You should put the ether gem in your weapon hand and then attack the mirror, IIRC.

Does the gem always disappear when you double click it? This really shouldn't happen, I guess.

Yup, it disappears no matter where I am. I had figured double clicking would give me the crosshairs and I could select the mirror. Its been a long long time since I played this originally so I wasn't sure. I did not expect it to disappear.

Attacking doesn't do anything either.

that's not the ether gem

The ether gem is that really tiny blue speck in your inventory. When you double click it should say something like "you have to hold it in your hand"

doh, I will go look again. So what is that thing that keeps disapperaing?

That's the gem that LB gave you to show you where the keep is. It should display an image of the keep when you use it. (and then shatter)

Btw, I was wrong about attacking the mirror. You just need to double click the gem while it's in your hand.

All right, I feel a bit silly now, but its all working. I appreciate you guys working so hard to fix this. Even if nothing needed fixing.

Actually the gem shattering is location based. If you use it in the Castle of Fire you probably will break it, but it should be much less prone to breaking if you use it somewhere like Britain. In the original U7 anyway. I haven't tried it in Exult.

Yes, it does that in Exult too, as it's controlled by its Usecode function. I guess the idea is that once you're on the Isle of Fire, it's no longer needed.
