Vasculio locks game

I went to the Vasculio fight and refused to trade Magebane, he killed me promptly so I went to Monk Isle, went back to the gwani, etc. When I try to go back and kill Vasci the game locks so only my party can't move/do anything. Inventory doesn't work, etc. Meanwhile a gwani was attacking me with a blowgun.

Did he say "Back to the pit..." and then freeze?

Not that I saw. What happened was he cast some blade spell on me, killed me. Got resurrected at Monk isle, they sent me back to the north so I went back to Vasci. When I got to his lab he said something about ...fresh victims and then HE could move, the gwani could move but MY party couldn't do anything. The esc menu still worked fine but my party couldn't move or get into invintory.

I ended up going back to an earlier save game and tried it again. Second time around I beat him and it worked fine. Unfortunatly it's been atleast 5 years since I've played SI so I don't remember if it's a SI issue or an Exult issue.

I think that's a general game issue. If you talk to him in the realm of the dead, it
locks up the game. Therefore I think it's very important that you beat him the
first time... In fact, I find it odd that you weren't able to. He's actually pretty easy
to beat, just make sure Dupre gets his lickings with the Magebane in first...
(your companions are actually quicker on the draw than you are, so make sure they
have the Magebane, and you don't)

Interesting, I did this the first time through (when I originally played) but the time I reloaded and did it again I used magebane, and he was easy to beat.
