@Mike: Please fell free to abuse our bug tracker, feature request tracker and if possible our patch tracker http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=2335

@ those with disappearing items, objects, please use our bug tracker to open a bug and attach savegames to that. Or if you really can't do that, please send the savegames as attachements to me.

Aaaargh... now is when I really miss all those savegames from 1999-2002. They would be of little help for the Exult project for they were original files but, who knows? Unearthing the bug in the original code could be the key after all... :__(

Since we don't share code with the original those savegames would not be of much use with the issue here.
Exult savegames with disappearing objects would really help.

I really don't understand why the releases don't include a version of Exult Studio that is keyed to the release. Its not like you cant build it from source - but why inconvinence people with that? Especially with how much of a pain compiling is being for me.

I recommend using the SVN anyway. There have been a decent amount of bugs fixed since this release.

Because Exult Studio is not deemed ready for any release, hard to release on OS X and if you want it on Windows there are still snapshots.
Not to mention the headache we will get with people trying to mix release and snapshot of either Exult and Exult Studio.
It's easy to build on Windows and OS X (just not easy to release). Why it all acts up for you on Fedora, no idea, but as there is not an Exult release anyway for Fedora...

I just dont get why you have commercial games with sometimes quite buggy toolsets - TES Construction Kit comes to mind - and yet ES which is at this point fairly mature - is "not deemed ready for release".

I have to wonder: If its not ready by now, when -is- it going to be ready?

I guess its not a big deal but it just confuses me.

I think it's because we (Marzo, actually) continues to add ES features, and they usually require equivalent updates to Exult itself.

Or maybe we have higher standards than those commercial companies.:-)

Hi guys, I'm thinking of starting a new game of U7 and am trying to decide whether I should go with this version or the previous stable. It looks like the disappearing items bug mainly affects people with large inventories, and I don't think I'll play that way. So I should go with the rc?

Thanks, esp to the developers for Exult.

Definitely not the previous version. So many things got fixed since then that I don't think it's worth it to play with that version.
I'd recommend a recent snapshot. As you can see by the news a couple of things got fixed since then.
The disappearing objects bug is serious though and you need to take care, save often and on the first glimpse of problems (crashes and disappearing objects) revert to a much earlier savegame.

Yeah, but... then again, the disappearing objects bug due to large inventories ALSO HAPPENS ON THE ORIGINAL GAME.

Therefore, no matter what version you play it will be there 'till this splendid team finally find how to fix it.

Unless we're talking about a different bug only present in the Exult code which somehow mimics that original one...

We don't know whether this is caused by large inventories.

Well, large inventories *seemed* to somehow trigger THAT original bug, but maybe it's only that large inventories made it to go skyrocket and too obvious while the bug itself is related to something completely different...

Batlin knows... :___P Of course, I have no doubt that if the current bug it's in fact a new one and not THAT one you'll finally fix it.

And I can tell you this: IF THAT ancient and annoying issue which screwed so many of my games in the 90's forcing me into paranoid-saving mode finally gets its fix after ALL this time (if it's even possible) it's gonna be HERE as well. ;-J

I think the original bug you're referring to is where the game goes wonky when too many objects are loaded in memory. A bloated inventory is the primary cause, especially if you're wandering through the heart of Britain, though your ship/carpet or house (you squatter, you) may also have too much stuff.

Since Exult doesn't exactly use the original game's engine, I wouldn't expect an identical bug.

Yeah, that one. And it's indeed true that it gets even more horrible if you keep wandering through Britain and specially Lord British's Castle.

Since Exult doesn't exactly use the original game's engine, I wouldn't expect an identical bug.

I wish... I think you must be right there, but I haven't been able to test it personally using Exult yet. If that new bug mimics the old one for a different reason... *OUCH* ain't gonna be funny...

Yes, I know the old original bug and no it is NOT the same, we do not share code with the original. Is that settled now?
