He was the main engine coder.
He has contacts with exult team.
so...
Why doesn't he give you some combat engine code ?
ps:
from my point of view
(potential-exult-project-cooperator-but-still-lost-in-cvs):
undocumented opensource is not very usable.
undocumented daily-variable opensource is definitely useless

Re: Where did Ken Demarest III GO ?
He probably doesn't give out the code, because he doesn't own the rights to the code, Origin/EA does.
And as to the 'undocumented daily-variable opensource' being useless, I use a lot of open source programs, downloaded a compiled from the sourceforge cvs on a daily basis. Most of which have less documentation then exult has, gtk-gnutella for example, and I have no problems with them.
So perhaps it should have been phrased 'undocumented daily-variable opensource is definitely useless TO ME'? *grin*

Re: Where did Ken Demarest III GO ?
Hmm... scratch that second bit, I'm splitting hairs between the context of 'from my point of view' and the general/specific nature of the statements. *grin* I'm being a bit overly pedantic I think.
My excuse is that I've had my head stuck in code all day. *grin*
* Darke disappears back to his code.

Re: Where did Ken Demarest III GO ?
ok don't worry,
but i must specify that the 'useless' stuff
came from my CODER point of view,
not my USER's point
I currently download & compile & use without
problems many great openS stuff.
But i find VERY VERY difficult to touch some
parts of the code to solve my probs.
(without screwing it , ofcourse

Re: Where did Ken Demarest III GO ?
No programmers likes to write documentation
It would be a LOT of work to properly document a program the size of Exult. You might argue that it should have been done from the beginning... but look deep into your heart and give me an honest answer - would YOU have done it?

You see documenting a project is the intention of every programmer, but for some reason, it just never happens.

And when it does happen (because one's boss orders it), the progam ends up changing so much that the documentation becomes worthless:-)
Re: Where did Ken Demarest III GO ?
Damnit, I want documentation, data flow diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, and a data dictionary, for exult NOW! :p
