Spawning Monsters

Post by Ton »

Hi there, has anyone except me noticed that sometimes a lot more than usual monsters appear? I had that several times in SI, once in the forest I saw about 8 foxes on a pile *G* and the record was in some cavern where about 20 acid slugs where clustered together. anyone else see things like that? ;-)

Heck, in this one strange cave I once was attacked by over 20 polar bears. It was really freaky. I was surrounded by such a large pile of p-bear corpses that I had to hack-move my way out of there. I remember in the original there was only supposed to be three. This was using about a 3 week old snapshot. Its just a little detail I suppose. Though I did loose 2 party members when I was attacked by 30 wolves. I counted the corpses afterwards.

And in an attempt to completely hijack a thread, I've noticed that over the past few weeks Exult has shrunk by about 200K or more. Is this because of better structured code which takes up less space, or is it because of better reliance on exhisting BG or SI code? Either way, I suppose its a pretty darn good thing.

It's a little less fun when it happens with sea serpents, which happened to me (long time ago though), when I was crusin around on the iceburg raft. I moved, one frame, and 10 new serpents came swarming at me. I moved to the right, an arseload more came in. ANd they were all hurling fireballs at me. *F2 > God mode* hehe

Having a screen full of slime is a pretty annoying thing.

Mind you, it all starts from just one.

I like going to the path that leads to fawn from the main road in SI. Along there a bunch of wolves appear. I like running away with them after me, going back and picking up another group.

I always see how many I can get.

Same as the gremlin spawns in u7. I amass a whole horde of them after me, then I slaughter them all and am left with a huge pile of food.

Maybe it has to do with the timing.

As I recall the original eggs had their respective NPC's attached to them. If you were far away, no NPC's were there, but as you approached the NPCs would spawn. However, there was a limit, and if you went away and came back it would not spawn more over the current ones unless the current ones were gone.

When you move a certain distance away, the NPC's that were spawned should disappear.
