Hi -
I'm trying to run Exult with an external synth. I have the MIDI set up with the Windows mapper to the external port. It works with the Exult splashsreen, but not on or past the intro or splashscreen for either game. Once I select a game, the messages just stop.
The music works (but sounds poor) when routed to the internal synth. This problem has been around since I first tried it at Alpha4... and I was just hoping it might go away. Now I'm hoping that someone might help me take a deeper look into it.
My system is:
Win98 / Asus K7M (Vortex) with onboard Game/MIDI port / ATI Rage Fury Graphics / Exult RC1-0.98
Thanks to anyone who can help,
Dave.

Re: Exult and External MIDI devices
Just to make sure is this working? http://exult.info/docs.php#win32_device
You should be able to set the device to use for midi. AFAIR using the external MIDI in Exult while keeping the Windows settings was why this was implemented in the first place.
Maybe it got broken, maybe your onboard soundcard is just bad (not that a SB Live! is much better at times )

Re: Exult and External MIDI devices
Dominus, Thanks for the response!
After looking even further into this, I have come to the bottom of the issue... The software was all set up correctly, and Exult is working well. My synth was only monitoring MIDI channel 1. Checking other MIDI channels, that's where the music went to on the start of the games.
Sorry about that! Cheers to the Exult Team!
