Win ME and the curse of Gamedat

*after reading the FAQ*
I can start Exult and it runs well, untill I want to start a new game. I type in the name, select gender, then I see a short flick of the red flickering background and exult is gone.

I have checked my exult.cfg and there is no space in the path, also have I set (in the .cfg) the save compression to 0. The errorlog tells me this:

Apparently there was no Gamedat folder created. (remembers the gamedat folders from the ancient times of the original game). I can play
by creating the first gamedat folder on my 2nd PC and then copying to the 1st PC., and loading/saving is no problem, nor is starting a new game an issue.

My System
AMD Athlon 1.5 Ghz
256 Mbyte Ram
Windows ME

Summary:
I can play it, but was not able to start a game, untill I created a gamedat folder on another pc (Pentium II - 350 Mhz, 64Mbyte Ram, Windows 98 SE).

what version of Exult have you been trying?

Hmm... trailing backslash could be causing problem when creating the dir...

I am using the newest snapshot (at least on the one that refused to create the dir) and the new Pre-release (Official - v0.98rc1) on the computer that did the trick.

I'm not sure if I'm happy or not that it wasn't me who broke it.... regardless 'this' problem is now fixed.
