Fighting
Is the exult team going to work on how fighting works in anyway. In the original I belive that you automaticaly attacked creatures when you went into combat mode. Also in exult i find that sometimes my part members don't attack and make poor avatar do all the work. Thanks for your time.
Re: Fighting
They're supposed to do the same in Exult, and they have when I've played in the past. However, they only automatically attack 'hostile' creatures, not neutral ones like deer.
Re: Fighting
Note: When all party members in Serpent Isle have bows or crossbows equipped, only the Avatar, and occasionally Iolo fight. The others stand in place with bows/crossbows drawn but not shooting.
I also discovered a nifty trick in Exult SI; at the start, run fast enough to Monitor and you don't have to answer whatshername's questions. Do it fast enough and there's an infinity bow lying on the ground half way!
Another trick: In Moonshade, get three broken automatons, cast create automata, cast serpent bond and ask the three automatons to join you! It even works in the original! However, the game crashes when you press 'L'.
Enjoy

Re: Fighting
No, here is what is supposed to happen when you initiate combat:
cursor turns red (duh) and your companions all go after the enemies. However, unless you point and click on a target at least once, YOU WILL JUST STAND THERE!!

Re: Fighting
I'll try this out tonight... They should attack automatically (assuming they have ammo readied).
Re: Fighting
From the start of the game, I took Iolo to the swamp where the aligator appears. When I pressed 'C', Iolo immediately shot at it until it was dead.
Re: Fighting
I mean, the Alligator is already after you. You should surprise attack someone.
Re: Fighting
But that doesn't work. If there is no one hostile your party won'T attack...

Re: Fighting
Just tried this in the original... when you attack a non-hostile, the party members don't respond at first. But if the enemy hits you, the party goes to your defense. In Exult I attacked a guard and he hit me and ended up killing me and Iolo just stood there.
Also thought I'd mention, since I had the chance to look, that certain puddles (including blood drawn in battle strangely) don't have ANY text
when you click them. So the problem in Exult isn't necessarily that you haven't found the text... just in case you didn't already know this. :>

Re: Fighting
So, the difference in Exult is that when otherwise friendly NPC's fight back after you've attacked them, your party doesn't defend you. We won't do anything about that until after 1.00. Maybe not even then, since you weren't being very virtuous:-)
Re: Fighting
about the liquid named "blood".
Well, the problem seems to be that in the original the only spilled liquid that had a name was blood and we name every liquid blood. Best file a bug report so we don't forget it again.

Re: Fighting
Include this in your bug file:
*juggernaut hammer still doesn't glow orange
*sword of defense paperdoll is dull gray
*helm of light no longer glows.

Re: Fighting
Sword of Defense: we use the one from Serpent Isle
Helm of Light: Are you sure it glowed in the original?

Re: Fighting
Helm of Light -- it glowed, and it didn't. The paperdoll / world picture of the Helm of Light just looked like the upended bucket with a blue faceguard, no glowing "aura" like magic armor or whatnot.
But when worn, it glowed (illuminated the world) like a great light spell.

Re: Fighting
In Ultima7 weren't there a few different battle "strategies" you could choose from? There was one where you had to double click for every hit, on where you just chose the target and the avatar attacked it until it was dead, and the others where the avatar automatically went after strongest/weakest etc.
And DR code I think your party members should defend you from innocents you attack. After all they do complain and eventually leave the party, and even turn on you after when you do too many of these "unvirtous" things.
