meat cleaver in bg.

Post by Ignitus Dragon »

Hey, I made a meat cleaver, and I'd love to send it to the Exult team if it works out right, but see, I can't incorporate it into the game to see, when I import it in Exult Studio and save it, it doesn't load it in the game.

Are you creating a new shape for it? The problem is that U7, and hence, Exult, only can deal with 1024 shapes. And all (0-1023) are used by the game.

So the only way to add your own shape is to find one of the existing shapes and replace it. But then, if you replace a wall shape with your cleaver, some building might look kind of funny:-)

You can alternatively edit the SI data index file and use expack to replace the shape. Then you need to launch Exult with the --nocrc option to test it.

Oh wait... I was editing Exult's included flex file, not one of the ones from the games, so I guess the procedure might not be the same. Instead you would need to extract all of the shapes first and make your own index file, and then repack them. I guess I should figure out if this can be done easier in Exult Studio in case I want to edit the game graphics sometime. :)

What Ignitus did should work, and is a lot simpler than using expack. My guess is that he doesn't have his 'patch' directory set in 'exult.cfg', but it could also be a bug in EStudio or Exult.

instead of adding a new shape, why not adding a new frame to an existing shape?
that should work.

It was saved as "paperdoll.vga" in another directory, so I had to change it, the graphic is nice its just a little too big, I have to shrink it a bit.

Patch directory- saved the files in there.
I thought it would save them directly to the Static directory haha...

Maybe Exult isn't checking the patch directory for 'paperdoll.vga'; it's something I have to check.
