Dreaded Skullcrusher

I'm trying to get into skullcrusher and I don't know if I have hit a bug, ot it's just a
plot element.

I did the Gwani quest and got the password, but when I get to the entrance
the automaton won't talk to me, which as I recall is the trick. There are some rune
stones to arrange on pedestals...I put them back where they should be to no
avail. I also tried casting telekinesis on a button inside the gate but had no
results. Double clicking on the automation from outside or (after teleport) inside
does not help.

Any suggestions?
