Greetings,
I've see there is possible substitute some musics or sfx with digital files (OGG), there is the possibility to make the same thing with the digital speech, so instead of playing the old 8bit .VOC file we can play a 16bit OGG file?
It's for a project of dubbing the Guardian voice (just for fun) or to replace it with a "digitally restored better quality" file.

If you do that, make a project to add voiceovers for all NPCs.
Combine that with Exult3D and you've surpassed U9. (in terms of graphics & sound; it's already surpassed in all other ways)
