Sphere Generator Bug

At least a couple people have reported a bug in the BG sphere generator puzzle, where you have to go through a circle of (blue, red) pairs of moongates. In the savegames they sent, most of those moongates didn't work. It turns out that the broken moongates are marked as 'path' rather than 'teleport' eggs.

I'm trying to figure out if we're corrupting them somehow, or if they're in that state to begin with, perhaps just in certain versions of U7.

Have many of you experienced this problem? And if you cheat your way in at the very start of the game, does it still occur?
