I've recently been trying the new snapshots rather than using 0.98rc1 (for, among other things, the ability to wear something other than a backpack on my back, to hold more items), and have found that I'm having some rather funky save problems with it.
Or more precisely, when I try to LOAD my saves, it all goes pear-shaped. I get the red loading screen (either from Load Game or from Journey Onward), then drop to desktop.
stderr.txt seems to show the problem:

I have set my paths in my config correctly (the game functions fine as is, no spaces in path, and so forth, it just gets uppity when loading under the latest few snapshots). I'm running the Windows build, on Windows XP Professional.
I can provide a savegame if needed, as well (I'd have submitted this to the bugtracker, but I'm not sure the proper way to submit somewhat unspecific errors there, as I don't know the REASON for this bug, just that it happens).

Just for curiosity sake, try starting a new game, save, quit, and then Journey Onward. If that works then your save game may be corrupt. If that doesn't work then it's something else.

Starting a new game, saving, and loading that game works fine -- I'm quite sure that the save game is corrupt, that's why I brought it up, since fixing whatever it is that causes it to save corrupt games would be nice.
The only thing pointing to it that I can see is that message in the stderr.txt that there was an error reading saved monsters, and that it had a problem with the schedule.dat
